Master Parts

Edited

The Master Parts page is the catalog of kits and parts used throughout your projects. It has two views, Kits and Parts, which you switch between from the sidebar.

Kits and Parts

  • Kits are assemblies made up of parts. The Kits view adds a Phase column and a Subs column showing how many subcontractors have labor rates filled in. A category list runs down the left so you can browse kits by category.

  • Parts are the individual catalog items.

Both views share the same core columns: an ID, Description, Category, and Trades. The ID column reads Kit # in the Kits view and Part # in the Parts view. Click that ID to open the item.

Parts in a kit

Open a kit to see the parts that make it up in the kit Parts table. Each row shows the part along with its quantities and its Unit of Measurement, the unit the part is counted in (for example, "ea" for each). If a part has no unit set, the column shows a dash.

Filtering and searching

Search by description or by ID, and filter by Trade. The search box reads Search kit # or description in the Kits view and Search part # or description in the Parts view. In the Kits view the trade filter also lets you narrow by phase, and the Parts view adds a Category filter.

The Kits view also has data quality filters for spotting kits with missing setup: Trade not set, Phase not set, and Subs not set. Each one shows a count of how many kits in the current view have that issue, and each has three modes:

  • Include: show every kit, whether or not it has the issue. This is the default.

  • Only: show just the kits that have the issue.

  • Exclude: hide the kits that have the issue.

Adding and managing items

  • Add Kit or Add Part, depending on the view.

  • Edit or Delete an item from its row menu.

The Kits view offers two extra tools when you have the right permissions:

  • Fill Missing Labor Rates: fill blank subcontractor rough and final labor rates from a kit's labor rates, for a single kit or as a background job across every kit. Existing rates are never overwritten, and locked rates are left untouched.

  • Merge Kits: combine a rough kit and a final kit into one merged kit, reviewing any conflicts along the way.

Locking subcontractor rates

When you edit a kit, the subcontractor costs section lists each subcontractor's labor rate for every phase. Next to each rate is a lock button. Lock a rate to protect that subcontractor's price for that phase from being changed in bulk:

  • A locked rate cannot be typed over, and its field is turned off until you unlock it.

  • Apply to All skips any locked rate and tells you how many locked rates it left alone.

  • Fill Missing Labor Rates skips locked rates as well.

  • Locked rates keep their value through imports, so a bulk import will not overwrite a price you have locked.

Click the lock button again to unlock a rate and allow it to change.

Duplicating a kit

To build a new kit that starts from an existing one, choose Duplicate from a kit's row menu in the Kits view or from the menu on the kit's detail page. A New Kit form opens prefilled with everything from the source kit: trade, phase, parts and their quantities, labor rates, subcontractor rates, category, and assignments.

Enter a kit number and description for the new kit, adjust anything else you need, then press Create. Nothing is saved until you do, so you can review the copied values or cancel at any time. The original kit is untouched.

Vendor pricing

When you edit a part and have pricing permission, the Vendor Prices table lists each vendor alongside a Trade column showing the trades that vendor is set up for. A dash means the vendor has no trades assigned. This column is read-only, so you can see at a glance which vendors match the part's trades while you set the price, start and expiration dates, and vendor part number. While you are editing a price, the field shows the exact stored value at its natural precision with no padding or rounding: 0.76 stays 0.76, 0.755 stays 0.755, and a finer stored value like 0.2646 stays 0.2646. A price with three or fewer decimals is taken exactly as you type it. Typing and moving between price fields is never interrupted. When you save (with the Save button or Cmd+S), if any price you edited during this visit has more than three decimal places, a single confirmation lists each of those prices with its exact value: press Save exact values to save them as typed, or cancel to return to the form unsaved with everything you entered still in place. A price you did not touch is never changed by opening or saving the part, and never triggers this confirmation. Everywhere a price is only displayed, it is rounded to at most three decimals and never padded: 0.2646 shows as 0.265, a mill-precision 0.755 shows as 0.755, and a plain 0.76 shows as 0.76 rather than 0.760. That display rule applies everywhere those prices appear or are totaled: the read-only price view, the kit cost shown on a kit, pull sheet previews and the emailed order (including its CSV and PDF copies), and the assembly report's material costs. Pull sheet totals are always calculated from the full stored price, so the preview total always matches the emailed order exactly.

In both the Pricing and Vendor Prices tables, a lock button sits next to each price. Lock a price to protect it: the price field is turned off until you unlock it again. When you are only viewing a part, a lock icon appears next to the prices that are locked.

Permissions

You need Master Parts view permission to open the page. Editing, deleting, viewing and editing pricing, and filling labor rates each require their own permission.
